‘Finding your reason why is the first step to success’ – Eric Thomas
Everybody loves a quote, I use them as a way to kind of introduce my posts. This will probably be one of the most difficult posts to write. Not because the task itself is difficult, bashing a keyboard is pretty damn easy, but finding the courage to actually write why I want to do something like this was difficult…
Why?- Three letters that can make or break anything. Why- is the question we ask ourselves, its the ultimate step into whether to give up or not.
My why is simple one (Lot of Y sounds being thrown about). Time. There are lots of motivations both external or internal but for me personally. The concept of time terrifies me.
One of my biggest overarching fears is simply running out of time. Time to enjoy myself, time to do things I enjoy, time to be a fully functioning human before the decay of age takes hold of me and everyday I struggle to be how I have always been. I envision a giant clock with a countdown on it and that shows all the time I have left. There is nothing you can do about it, there is no way to extend or delay it. It is paralyzingly scary and something that keeps me up at night. Whether one day I accept it or not will be discussed in a future post.
So with that huge boogeyman that is the time that will inevitably run out, I am using that to try and maximise what time I have left. I am trying to use it as a fuel to get as fitter and healthier to stave off being an old decrepit man who has to rely on people to help him be normal. It might be a warped way of looking at it but hitting 30 this year has lead me to the cross roads. I am unfit, unhealthy, and appear to be careering towards the downward spiral of being unable to enjoy life as much as I possibly can.
I am interested to hear what your ‘why’ is. Why do you work out? Why do you want to change your current circumstances? Why now? Why not now? Feel free to discuss it below!
Finally, Gym Jam episode 2! – I know you all love this!
This one is an absolute belter! (I know its another from Rocky)- but it is such a feel good song! If you’re doing cardio its quite lengthy so it can take out quite a chunk of time too!
